Reading Profile
Should I read this?
A practical system for behavior change built on the idea that tiny, incremental improvements compound into remarkable results. Clear avoids motivation-based advice and instead focuses on environment design, habit stacking, and identity-based change—making good habits frictionless while making bad ones inconvenient. The book is structured in short, actionable chapters, each ending with a cheat sheet, so you can skip around based on what you are trying to fix. It cares less about the psychology of why you procrastinate and more about the engineering of making procrastination harder.
Read this if...
- •A mid-level manager who has tried three different productivity systems and keeps lapsing after two weeks—Clear explains how to solve the willpower problem by changing the default, not the person.
- •A new parent trying to salvage any routine from the chaos of sleep deprivation—the idea that a two-minute version of a habit still counts is genuinely useful when energy is near zero.
- •A fitness newbie who is intimidated by elaborate workout programs and needs someone to say one pushup today is a win without sounding like a motivational poster.
Skip this if...
- •You will bounce if you are looking for deep psychological exploration—Clear skims over the research to get to the tactics, and the reader who wants to understand why they overeat may leave unsatisfied.
- •You will likely lose interest when the four-part framework starts to feel like a business book formula padded with anecdotes—the core idea is strong but the book could be a long blog post without losing much.
- •Skip if you are already a disciplined person who does not struggle with routine; the book assumes a baseline of habit failure that may not apply, and the repetition will grate.

Not sure if this is the right fit?
Consider The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy. Recommended by 8 sources.
“Soft-spoken, heavily illustrated fable built from short dialogues and watercolor sketches. Each spread pairs a spare line of text with a loose drawing, so the pleasure is visual and aphoristic rather than narrative; readers collect felt-true sentences more than plot. Most useful when you want quick consolations, a prompt for conversation with a child, or a pause during a rough day. Limiting if you want sustained argument, concrete advice, or tightly plotted storytelling: the repetition of gentleness can feel sentimental or thin after a while.”
